(5 things that’ll enhance your life that you didn’t know yesterday)

Hi there,

Do you guys have a coffee cutoff time? Truthfully, mine is “whenever I remember to stop.” Yesterday, that was 4:30 in the afternoon. Then I lay in bed at midnight wondering why my brain was running a chatty podcast nobody asked for.

So when a new review landed showing how little caffeine it takes to mess with your deepest sleep, I was reading it with my third cup in hand. Not my finest moment, admittedly. The numbers are below, and they’re worth two minutes. The rest of this week is lighter than life advice though - and, as you’ve come to expect, includes at least one dinosaur, an interesting car, a watch, and spies.

Anyway, today we’ll cover:

How one cup of coffee can cut into your deep sleep, and what that has to do with testosterone
A former spy chief, 2,000 secret files, and an aide who allegedly sold them
A $6 million dinosaur that may settle a long-running argument about T. rex
Jaguar’s 1,015-horsepower four-door
A watch with a dial cut from a meteorite (only 150 made)
Plus: the difference between getting hard and staying hard

Enhanced Sleep: The 100 mg Problem

Here’s a number that made me look at my mug differently: 100 milligrams. That’s roughly one 8-oz cup of brewed coffee, and according to a new review in Nutrients, it’s enough to measurably reduce your deep sleep.

Researchers pulled together 32 human studies, going back to 1980, that measured sleep with brain-wave (EEG) recordings rather than people’s guesses. The most consistent finding: caffeine dials down the slow, low-frequency brain activity that marks deep sleep, the stage your body uses for physical repair. More caffeine generally meant a bigger effect.

Timing matters more than most of us think. In one of the studies, 400 mg of caffeine (about four cups) taken six hours before bed cut slow-wave sleep from 71.5 minutes to 48.9. That’s nearly a third of your deepest sleep, gone, from a mid-afternoon habit. Another small study found that even 200 mg right after waking at 7 a.m. still trimmed total sleep that night.

Why should a guy care beyond feeling groggy? Because sleep is when your body does a lot of its hormone work. A well-known University of Chicago study found that healthy young men who slept five hours a night for one week had 10–15% lower daytime testosterone. Less sleep, less testosterone, and less energy for everything that depends on it.

The caveats: this is a review of mostly small lab studies, older adults were underrepresented, and genetics play a big role in how sensitive you are. The experts quoted were clear that there’s no universal cutoff time.

Practical takeaway: run your own test. For two weeks, stop caffeine by noon and see whether you wake up feeling different. If you’re a “coffee doesn’t affect me” guy, that’s exactly the person this study suggests should try it. You can read the full story here.

From The Enhanced Male: Getting Hard vs. Staying Hard

Here’s something most guys never get told: getting an erection and keeping one are two different problems.

An erection is blood. It flows in, the tissue firms up, and staying hard means keeping that blood where it is. For a lot of men, the trouble isn’t getting there. It’s that things start to fade halfway through, and the moment you notice, your head makes it worse.

That’s where a ring comes in. Worn at the base, it gently slows the blood from draining back out. Medical News Today puts it simply: the pressure “holds blood in the penis longer,” which can make an erection firmer and longer-lasting. No pill, no prescription, nothing to wait for.

The catch is fit. Too loose does nothing; too tight is uncomfortable and defeats the point. That’s why the one we’d point you to first is a set, not a single ring: the Silicone Cock Ring Set by Lynk Pleasure.

Three sizes in one box. Small, medium and large. Try them, find yours, skip the guesswork.
100% silicone, soft and very stretchy. Latex-free, hypoallergenic, waterproof and easy to clean. Comes in blue or black.
Under $12 for all three. Rated 4.78 out of 5 from 40 reviews.

One customer wrote that “the different sizes, softness, and flexibility was exactly what I was looking for.” Another summed it up: “Good variety of sizes. Soft and flexible.”

If you picked up a pump after last week’s issue, this is also the piece that holds the result: slip a ring on once you’re done pumping to keep the blood where it is.

The straight talk: a ring is a tool, not a cure. Use one for no more than 30 minutes at a time, never sleep in it, and use a little lube going on. If you can’t get an erection at all, or something changes without an obvious reason, that’s a conversation for your doctor first.

It ships with discreet shipping and billing, and returns are free.

Enhanced Intrigue: The Spy Chief and the 2,000 Files

August Hanning ran Germany’s foreign intelligence service, the BND, from 1998 to 2005. Last week, at 80, he was arrested on suspicion of treasonous espionage. Prosecutors allege that from 2010 his former chief of staff, who stayed in that role under later BND presidents until this year, passed him about 2,000 internal documents for payment, which Hanning allegedly used in private consulting and to brief a foreign intelligence officer. They haven’t said which country. The kicker: investigators stumbled onto it while searching his home in an unrelated case. Full story here.

Enhanced History: A $6 Million Dinosaur

In 2019, a Montana rancher named Jodi Pierson found a skeleton on her land. For years, people argued about what it was: a teenage T. rex, or a smaller cousin called Nanotyrannus? A 2025 study backed the cousin. Now “Jodi,” one of only three known Nanotyrannus skeletons, goes up for auction at Sotheby’s in New York on October 27, expected to fetch $6 million or more. She’s 19.6 feet long, 67 million years old, and still has about 35 teeth. Check it out here.

Enhanced Speed: Jaguar’s 1,015-hp Four-Door

The Type 01 is the production version of the Type 00 concept Jaguar showed at Miami Art Week in 2024. It’s a four-door electric grand tourer with three motors, up to 1,015 horsepower, 0–60 in 3.1 seconds and up to 400 miles of range. A fast charger adds up to 200 miles in 13 minutes. Jaguar calls it the most powerful car it has ever built. It starts at $130,500. More here.

Enhanced Timekeeping: A Watch From Space

Most watch dials are painted metal. The Wren Vessel’s is cut from a meteorite, so no two have the same pattern. It’s a 39mm steel case with a Swiss automatic movement, a 56-hour power reserve, an aqua seconds hand and 230 feet of water resistance. Only 150 will be made, with no second run. It’s $3,400 on preorder. Take a look here.

Anyway! That’s all for this week. See you next week for more life-enhancing TL;DRs from across the internet.

P.S. If you switch to decaf after lunch, know that it isn’t zero. A cup usually still has a few milligrams of caffeine. Not enough to matter for most of us, but worth knowing if you’re sensitive!
