Before a COAST beanbag ever sat on a deck at home, it sat on the deck of a superyacht.

We began in 2003 as a specialist supplier to the superyacht industry, where salt, UV and constant movement find every weakness. Fabric fades. Zips seize. Stitching gives. Hardware corrodes. On a boat, there's no hiding a shortcut.

So we didn't take any. The materials and methods we developed for life at sea are the same ones in every piece we make today: handmade in New Zealand, and built for life.

Every product is only as good as its weakest component

Most manufacturers start with a price and work backwards, stripping out cost wherever they can. We start with the harshest conditions we can imagine and work forward from there.

That approach has taken COAST aboard some of the world's most demanding boats, including Volvo Ocean Race and America's Cup campaigns. It's demonstrably not the cheapest way to make a product. But it's the only way we know to make one that lasts.

What the sea taught us

"There are two things that I have always loved, racing yachts offshore and spending time with my family cruising on our boat, both things COAST beanbags have been an integral part!!

Being a sailmaker, I recognise the quality of the fabrics used and workmanship, which is second to none.

Totally at home in the navigation station of the world’s most high-tech offshore race boats, to cruising the “COAST” of New Zealand…. I love them.…"

Kent Hutchings
"Love all the Coast NZ bean bags! Perfect for sailing as they are so durable and easy to clean. I highly recommend the Marine Bean Nautilus, as it is the perfect size for boating, easy to stow and move about to different spots on the boat. The Nautilus is also a comfortable seat on the beach and easily packs into your car boot. Great to have marine grade specification. Once again, highly recommend! Sailings never bean so comfortable!"

Jane Moon

"We bought Coast bean bags for our boat in the Cayman Islands. They are excellent quality, very comfortable, long lasting and hard wearing. Highly recommend, great product and customer service.

There's no environment harder on outdoor furniture than the open sea. Everything we make has been built with that in mind, so wherever yours ends up, it's already been somewhere tougher.
