Low autumn shadows in the north, bright spring sidewalks in the south. The city never repeats a gesture, and the light rarely waits. Here is what to do, what to skip, and how to make every frame count.

01	Add depth through texture

Street photography thrives on raw reality rather than polished perfection. With a 100MP medium format sensor, coarse fabrics, rain-washed cobblestones, and weathered surfaces gain distinct physical presence, rendering depth and fine tactile layers that make the pavement feel real.

“As with all street photography, the results are totally dependent on what happens that day. The people photographed were chosen to reflect a feeling of place from the city.”

Tom Pitts, Winner of the Street Category, Hasselblad Masters 2023

02	Be spontaneous

With chaotic light and crowded sidewalks, rigid rules like perfect leveling become a limit. Trust your observation and follow raw expressions instead. Even if the frame tilts in the rush, 100 megapixels gives you the freedom to crop in, reframe, and isolate the real emotion later without sacrificing print-grade resolution.

X2D II 100C

Fast AF-C subject tracking locks onto walking pedestrians instantly, while up to 10 stops of 5-axis stabilization keep spontaneous sidewalk encounters tack-sharp into twilight.

03	See through the reflections

Glass facades, graffiti-tagged mirrors, and rain puddles reflect the true attitude of a city. Use them to double your story, but watch your angles closely. Uncontrolled glare and unintended reflections can quickly turn a clean composition messy and muddy.

Hasselblad CPL Filter

Cuts distracting surface glare across storefronts and wet pavements.

04	Isolate color or strip it away

Competing hues make street scenes look muddy. Expose for a single bright subject and let the background fall into clean, deep shadow, or switch to monochrome. With 16-bit tonal depth, deep shadows stay pure and almost noise-free.

05	Work with the night light

When daylight fades, neon signs and billboards turn the pavement into a theater of light. With Hasselblad's up to 10 stops of in-body stabilization, longer handheld exposures let moving crowds blur while illuminated signs stay pin-sharp.

XCD 2,5/25V

An ultra-wide f/2.5 prime that draws out every trace of twilight while rendering clean, crisp starbursts across city streetlights.

BUY NOW

XCD 2,5/38V

The balanced 30mm equivalent field of view, combining a fast aperture with swift autofocus for reactive handheld captures in the dark.
