Hasselblad and Capture One recently joined forces, bringing a new editing workflow to our users. In this tutorial, we're highlighting a few of Capture One's essential tools, and showing how the richness of detail preserved in a Hasselblad file gives you the room to refine your creation.

Balancing Highlights and Shadows

For a starting point, the High Dynamic Range tool is the quickest way to pull back blown highlights and open up shadows without touching the overall exposure. From there, the Levels tool gives you finer control over contrast, using the White Point, Black Point, and Output Black Point to shape the full tonal range. With a Hasselblad RAW file, there's enough information at both ends to make each adjustment count.

Grading a Scene in Colour

The Color Balance tool lets you shift highlights, midtones, and shadows toward different colours independently, all from one place. Here, it meant pushing highlights toward gold and shadows toward blue-violet to match the light of a sunset. A Hasselblad file's colour depth keeps transitions smooth even under a heavier grade.

Unifying Colour Tones Across the Frame

Natural light rarely renders every surface as the exact same colour: a canal, a sunlit wall, and a shaded corner can all read as slightly different blues. The Skin Tone Editor lets you pick a reference hue and pull nearby tones toward it, dialing up Uniformity until they read as one palette. It's precise work, and it depends on having enough distinct colour data to begin with, which is exactly what a Hasselblad file provides.

Editing Every Part of the Frame on Its Own

Layers and Masks let you treat every depth of a frame independently, so a busy scene doesn't flatten into one plane. Here, Clarity was pushed up in the foreground and eased back toward the rear, letting the eye read distance the way it naturally would. A 100MP Hasselblad file provides the pixel-level detail to mask complex edges this cleanly.
