Team MNTN TSTD athlete Aaron Kubala took on one of the toughest races in the country: the Bigfoot 200. Across 200 miles of technical trail, 40,000+ feet of climbing, and 42,000+ feet of descent, he finished first in 47:21:11—the fastest time ever posted on the route with Klickitat. He’s also won 2 out of 3 ‘Triple Crown’ 200 milers. His next goal? The Moab 240 in October. With that under his belt he’ll have completed the runner trifecta and will become part of a select few runners ever to pull that off.

“The Bigfoot 200 is a wild one. The course starts in the lava fields of Mount Saint Helens, climbs through exposed subalpine ridges, and eventually disappears into the deeply overgrown forests of the Pacific Northwest. The terrain changes constantly, but the challenge never really lets up. Technical trails, massive climbs and descents, and the remoteness of the course make every mile its own test. Despite a three-hour penalty after getting separated from my pacer, I made it to the finish first. But this race was about more than the finish.” A Race For Mom

“Every race and mile this year has been dedicated to my mom, who passed away in April. Before she passed, we launched a fundraiser for metastatic breast cancer research through METAvivor, the only nonprofit exclusively funding research for this type of cancer. My favorite moment came at the second sunrise atop Pompeii Peak. My girlfriend Amber, who was pacing me, and I put on my mom’s funeral playlist and pushed through the final morning together. Then we headed for the finish.”
