It started with a
pile of ruined shoes.

In 2008, our creator Andrew Rademacher hit his limit looking for shoes that fit the natural shape of a foot. Nothing on the market did it. So he started cutting up his own favorite running shoes, stripping out the extra material to see what was actually necessary — and what was just there.

Then he went and learned the trade: shoe fitting, last construction, pattern making. Not to work inside the industry's assumptions, but to be able to build against them.

The research method: take it apart, and see what's left.

What he kept running into was simple, and the whole industry had it backwards: a shoe should be built around the shape of the foot, not the foot around the shape of the shoe.

Which means widest at the forefoot and toes. Fully flexible. Nothing restricting how the foot already wants to move.
