(5 things that’ll enhance your life that you didn’t know yesterday)

Hi there,

Confession time: until last month I couldn’t have told you my own blood pressure. I knew my 0-60 times for cars I’ll never own, but not the one number my doctor actually cares about.

So this week’s lead story hit a little close to home. It’s about something that’s often getting worse for guys our age, and the early warning sign that most of us would rather not talk about. I’m going to talk about it anyway. The rest of the issue is lighter, I promise.

Anyway, today we’ll cover:

Strokes in adults under 55 have nearly doubled, and the warning sign that can show up years earlier
A Doctor-Recommended Alternative to ED Medication: Automatic Precision Electric Penis Pump
The 600-year-old gun soldiers found while sweeping for landmines
A 900-horsepower G-Wagen with no roof, and only 10 of them
The Polaroid that makes you do the work again
A Seiko GMT that costs less than a weekend away

Enhanced Heart: The Early Warning Sign Most Guys Ignore

Here’s a stat that should get every guy under 55 to book a checkup. A new study in *Neurology* from the University of Cincinnati tracked strokes across the Greater Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky region from the early 1990s to 2020. Overall, stroke rates fell. But among adults aged 20 to 54, the stroke rate nearly doubled, from 33.9 to 62.2 cases per 100,000 people per year.

As one of the researchers put it, “the people who were having strokes were getting younger and younger.” The likely drivers are the usual suspects: high blood pressure, diabetes, extra weight, sitting too much, and possibly cannabis and other drug use, though that link is still unclear.

Enhanced Heart: The Early Warning Sign Most Guys Ignore

The caveat: this covers one region of the U.S., and it shows a trend, not exactly what caused it. Still, those risk factors are national problems, not local ones.

Now for the part most guys don’t want to hear. Strokes, heart attacks and erectile dysfunction often share the same root problem: damage to the lining of your blood vessels. The arteries in the penis are much smaller than the ones around your heart, so they tend to show trouble first. According to Mayo Clinic, “you may have ED years before heart symptoms, such as chest pain, happen.”

In other words, a change in your erections isn’t only a bedroom problem. Sometimes it’s the earliest and most honest health report you’ll get.

Practical takeaway: if things have changed down there and you can’t point to an obvious reason (stress, a few too many drinks, a new medication), don’t just work around it. Mayo Clinic recommends that men with unexplained ED get checked for heart disease. Book a physical, get your blood pressure and blood sugar checked, and treat it as useful information, not bad news. Caught early, nearly every risk factor on that list is fixable.

From The Enhanced Male: The Drug-Free Option Doctors Already Use

Once you’ve had that checkup, a lot of guys want an option that doesn’t start with a prescription. One of the oldest is also one of the simplest: a vacuum pump.

Mayo Clinic describes how it works: a tube fits over the penis, and the pump “sucks air out of the tube. This makes a vacuum that pulls blood into your penis.” A tension ring at the base then helps hold it. No pills, no waiting for something to kick in. Doctors often suggest it when medication doesn’t work or isn’t a good fit.

If you’re going to try one, this is the one we’d point you to: the Automatic Precision Electric Pump. It’s the top seller in our pump collection, for three reasons:

A digital pressure gauge. The easiest mistake to make with any pump is guessing. This shows you exactly how much pressure you’re using, so you can start low and stay consistent.
A quick-release safety valve. One press and the pressure’s gone. That matters more than any spec on the box.
One-handed and rechargeable. Four speeds, an LCD screen, USB charging and an 8-inch cylinder, with a silicone sleeve included.

It’s rated 4.7 out of 5 from 76 reviews. One customer called it “strong, easy to use” and “great for the price.” Another wrote, “I really like the automatic timer. The suction is great.”

The straight talk: the effect is temporary, it’s a tool rather than a cure, and Mayo notes that bruising can happen, which is exactly why the gauge matters. Start low and go slow.

It ships in plain, unbranded packaging with discreet billing, and returns are free.

Enhanced History: The Gun Found by Mine Sweepers

South Korean soldiers doing a routine landmine sweep on Geumseongsan Mountain in Naju turned up something unexpected: a 10-inch bronze “fire tube” weighing just over two pounds. Its 28-character inscription names the official who supervised it and the craftsman who made it, and dates it to either 1377 or 1437. That makes it the oldest gunpowder weapon ever found in Korea. The mountain may have been a stronghold against pirates raiding the nearby river. Full story here.

Enhanced Speed: 900 Horsepower, No Roof, 10 Made

Mercedes won’t sell an official G-Class convertible in the U.S. until 2028 at the earliest, so Brabus built one anyway. The 900 Rocket Edition Cabrio takes a G 63, chops the roof, and pushes its twin-turbo V8 to 900 horsepower, good for 0–60 in 3.7 seconds. The soft top folds in 20 seconds, and each of the 10 cars comes with a blockchain “passport” to prove it’s real. Check it out here.

Enhanced Gear: The Polaroid That Makes You Work for It

Phones take perfect photos, which is sort of the problem. The Polaroid MOD ($170) brings back manual exposure: you set the brightness yourself with a dial instead of letting the camera decide. It also does double exposures, split shots and light painting, takes standard i-Type and 600 film, and charges over USB-C. Every shot costs you a print, so you actually think before you press the button. More here.

Enhanced Timekeeping: A $379 GMT

A GMT watch tracks a second time zone with an extra hand. Usually that means Rolex money. Seiko’s 5 Sports SSK005 does it with an automatic movement, a 42.5mm steel case, 100 meters of water resistance and a loud orange dial that won’t get lost in a drawer. It’s currently $379, down from $475. Take a look here.

Anyway! That’s all for this week. See you next week for more life-enhancing TL;DRs from across the internet.

P.S. If you read the first story and thought “that’s not me,” do it anyway: blood pressure checks are free at most pharmacies and take about two minutes. Then you’ll know.
