What to Know About the Ledger DMK + Ledger Names New CIO & CSO

If you use Ledger with a software wallet like MetaMask, Rabby, or Phantom, there is a background upgrade worth knowing about. It is called the DMK. This issue covers what it is, what it means for your setup, and what to do if your wallet has not shipped the update yet. Plus: a major security appointment at the top of Ledger.

What to know about the Ledger DMK upgrade

DMK Rollout - A Clearer Signing Experience

The DMK is how the next generation of software wallets connects to your Ledger signer. Most major wallets are already on it, giving users a clearer signing experience. If your wallet is not updated by mid-September, signing transactions may stop working until they ship the update. This is a wallet-side upgrade. An AI agent does not have to be malicious to drain your wallet

Your Agent Does Not Have to Be Malicious to Drain Your Wallet

AI agents are exposed by design. They browse the web, read emails, open files, follow instructions in text. A poisoned website, a hidden prompt in a document, malware on your device. Any of these can turn your agent against you. A hijacked agent does not need your keys. It just needs to change what you see before you approve. Ledger runs a dedicated OS built for one job: security. The Trusted Display is driven directly by the Secure Element. No app, no agent, no malware can touch it. In a world where AI is evolving to defeat any software defense, deterministic hardware is the secure answer.

Blind Signing Is How Funds Disappear

You approve a transaction you cannot read. The contract does something you did not expect. By the time you notice, it is done. That is the danger of blind signing. Clear Signing shows every transaction in plain language on your signer screen before anything moves. Read it. Then sign it. It is the simplest line of defense between your assets and a contract that does not behave the way you think it does.

Phishing Attempts Are Increasing. Here’s What to Watch For.

Reports of phishing attempts are rising. Attackers impersonate legitimate services through DMs, emails, phone calls, fake websites, and fake support accounts. Their goal is your Secret Recovery Phrase. Common signs include unusual sender addresses, language that creates urgency, and requests that pressure you to act immediately. Ledger does not threaten users or rush them into decisions. Do not click links. Do not share information, and report suspicious messages to phishing@ledger.fr.

True security starts with you. Never share your 24-word Secret Recovery Phrase or enter it on any device; Ledger will never ask for it. Store your recovery sheet or Ledger Recovery Key in a secure location. Prevent phishing by double-checking URLs and using official apps. Crucially, avoid blind signing: always verify transaction details on your Ledger signer’s Secure Screen before you sign. Head over to Ledger Academy for the full security checklist.
