Entrepreneurship at 55

If you’ve ever wondered why I did it, I finally made a video about what gets me out of bed every morning to build Y.Chroma.

Why did I do it? Why choose to move to a new European city at 50 years old and dedicate perhaps the rest of my days to building fashion for guys our age?

Answer: I probably did not have a choice. I was just built to build stuff, and the cooler the stuff and the harder the problems to solve the more I’m drawn to it.

Look, most of what passes for luxury in menswear is just logo exposure and overt wealth signaling. With respect for those other luxury fashion houses, on a grown man that looks thirsty.

That’s not who we are as men, and certainly not someone like me who’s a dyed-in-the-wool entrepreneur. And I don’t think it’s who you are either.

I’ve been thinking about this a lot lately - about what it means to build something, to be compulsive about it, to choose the 2AM ceiling-staring and all the other chewing-glass aspects of starting a business (a fashion business, no less!) from zero. No sane person would do something like that.

The answer is hunger. My guess is you know something about that – that hunger to do something difficult for the sheer love and challenge of it.

To my fellow entrepreneurs out there – stay hungry for a long time, lads!
