The other day I told you how Y.Chroma started. Today I want to tell you where it's built — and why that matters more than most brands will ever admit.

Ninety-nine percent of the clothes sold in America are not made there. The stuff in the mall is made in low-cost, mass-production facilities optimized for volume. That's fine — it serves a purpose. But exquisite things — craftsmanship at the level I wanted — that happens here. In Europe.

When I started looking for the people who could actually build Y.Chroma, I found something I wasn't fully prepared for.

There's a hidden ecosystem of master craftspeople scattered across Europe — in Porto, in Sofia, in Milan, in Pforzheim, and in places I'm not going to mention here. Ateliers and workshops where people have been making things at a relentlessly demanding standard for generations. Where the person running the seam has been running seams for thirty years. Where quality isn't a marketing claim. It's a professional religion. Nobody compromises because their name is on it. Their father's name was on it before them.

You won't find these places along the grand boulevards, or in the museum districts, or at the tables of the famous restaurants. They exist in a parallel city — tucked into working neighborhoods, down streets that don't make it onto any itinerary. You find them the way I found them — by showing up, by being introduced, by earning the right to be in the room. It took years.

I love mastery. The concept of doing something for thousands of hours until what you make genuinely deserves to be called exquisite — and then improving it anyway. I found that here. And it appealed to me at a very deep level.

Here's the thing though. These people didn't need me.

They have all the work they'll ever need. They produce for some of the biggest luxury houses on earth. Why would they take a meeting with an unknown American showing up in Lisbon with a PowerPoint and a dream? I'll tell you why they wouldn't — and didn't, at first.

I had to show up. Over and over. I had to sit across from these people and explain what I was trying to build and why it mattered. Some of them said no twice before they said yes. Some of them — men my age, men who'd spent their entire lives building mastery in their craft — eventually saw what I saw. That there was a generation of men who deserved clothes made at this level, and nobody was making them.

You cannot build Y.Chroma from a sourcing agency or by emailing factories asking for samples. You have to be here. You have to earn the right to be taken seriously by people who have been doing this longer than you've been thinking about it.

That process taught me more about mastery than anything else I've done. And it's why everything we make is European. Not because it's a better story. Because there is no other way to do this right.
