THE AUTUMN EQUINOX

The Autumn equinox marks one of two moments in the year when day and night are of almost equal length. For thousands of years, the changing of the season has been marked with ritual – harvests, dancing, fires, food and herbs dried and stored. We still tend to change our routines and rituals with a marked shift in the seasons. Warm baths and fragrant oils, candlelight, resinous perfumes, heavier florals, more woods and smoke. The gathering darkness is not an absence but an atmosphere to be relished. Shop our edit of scents, potions, candles, and talismans for marking the equinox with pleasure.

THE VIRTUES OF ANCIENT LIGHT

Throughout the nineteenth-century revival of occult and mystical practices, stones and amulets were worn for protection and for the spiritual powers they were believed to possess. These traditions drew from much older ideas about the material world – that nature was not passive, but alive with hidden virtues, and that certain stones and other natural materials might offer protection. Our new jewelry collection takes inspiration from this long history of carrying small pieces of the natural world close to the body as a shield against the unknown.

SCENT AS TALISMAN

We translated our most enduring olfactive themes into atmosphere for the home. Hand blown, naturally scented candles form the foundation of the collection, accompanied by handmade incense, heirloom-quality snuffers, and sculptural glass accessories designed to expand the ethos and vision of Kindred Black beyond the vanity and into the home.
